Architects Practicing Architecture

Gilchrist Ross Crowe Architects' (GRC) three principals have over 91 years of experience. Each principal brings a unique and recognized strength to the firm. The common denominator is that each partner strives for excellence. In doing this GRC has grown to enjoy the more challenging projects. The challenge of existing structural constraints, limited funds, and tight schedules all serve as a backdrop for providing excellent service and architecture. Gilchrist Ross and Crowe has a history of consistently meeting these challenges. Beginning with Richard R. Crowe & Associates in 1987, this is the firms 21st year of practice.

GRCs philosophy of its Principal Architects practicing architecture keeps the principals personally working on every project. This allows us to serve the client better than our competition most of which are much larger firms. We have chosen to be the size we are for purposes of being able to provide our clients with principals working as true practicing architects. Since the principals have intimate involvement in all aspects of a project, potential problems are dealt with early.

Three principals and a staff of six allows GRC to be extremely efficient. Furthermore GRC utilizes the Building Information Modeling Process (BIM) to leverage knowledge and create a smooth information stream throughout the design and documentation process. Historically we have handled institutional projects ranging in construction cost from 10 to 40 million dollars.

The principals are enthusiastic about being active on every project without the burden of the tiered hierarchy of larger firms with the protracted appointment of project managers, spec writers and other specialized roles. GRCs Principal-in-charge is the project manager, from start to finish, on the boards designing the details, in every meeting, and in the field during construction. This is a strategic advantage over many area firms and one which our clients have come to appreciate.

GRC's approach of avoiding design mistakes is paramount in avoiding problems during construction. GRC actively pursues quality control review of all architecture and engineering disciplines prior to issuance of bidding documents. In addition, in GRC's contracts with their consultants, GRC requires principals of the individual firms to provide the same quality control review. Over his career, GRC's Principal-in-charge has taken three quality control management courses tailored to reducing change orders during construction.
